Animals are more comfortable in familiar surroundings where they feel safest. Passing peacefully at home with family is often less stressful than traveling somewhere. At age six she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian, having always had cats, dogs, tree frogs, and her father’s occasional “pet” scorpions. Dr. Aimee graduated from the University of Arizona (Bear Down!) and then Washington State’s College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Cougs!). She then returned to Arizona for a one-year rotating small animal internship in Mesa, before moving back to Tucson to practice general medicine for eight years. Early in her career, Dr. Aimee learned that in-home euthanasia was a much more comfortable experience for families and, of course, their pets. A little over two years ago, she shifted her general practice to work exclusively on end of life care to help counsel family members with the most difficult part of a pet's life by giving them a peaceful passing. Dr. Aimee lives with her husband, children, three cats — C.C. (the reformed barn cat), Blister (the Valley Fever survivor), Cody (the sweet stray that just showed up one day), — and the little heeler Bear.
